Dermatitis & Thermequin
Also called summer eczema, equine recurrent summer dermatitis (ERED) is a condition that occurs on the horse's mane and tail.
The animal suffers from severe itching that forces it to scratch and often causes significant lesions.
The horse loses its hair and mane and feels pain at the root of the tail and mane and sometimes this extends to the neck or even the back.
Dermatitis is caused by an allergic reaction to the bites of colloid flies and other insects.
Dermatitis is difficult to treat because it is difficult to stop the itching and therefore the scratching that causes lesions.
Preventive measures must be taken by using repellents and protecting the horse with fly masks and blankets if necessary.
But once the allergic reaction is there, what to do?
First of all, it is necessary to calm the itching to stop the vicious circle of scratching.
It is also necessary to repair the skin damaged or even injured by scratching and to nourish the skin which often has a cardboardy, dried out, sometimes cracked appearance.
And finally, to encourage hair regrowth.
And this is where the synergy of THERMEQUIN products comes into play.
Used in humans for many years to treat eczema and psoriasis, Dead Sea mud acts in the same way on horses.
Dermatitis treatment method
Apply THERMEQUIN Terre to the affected area (if there is no wound!).
Leave overnight or for a few hours, rinse or clean if you can with SENSITIVE shampoo and dry.
To speed up tissue repair, apply Thermequin cream or spray alternately.
Repeat for several days until improvement.
If there are scratch wounds, use only THERMEQUIN cream or spray.
If you use SENSITIVE shampoo
It is recommended to use it twice a week at first and space it out to once a week, then twice a month. Treat damaged areas after shampooing with Thermequin cream, or Thermequin Terre if the skin is not open.
Also consider using an insect repellent. (anti-fly, mask, etc.)
