The Dead Sea is not really a sea, it is actually a saltwater lake with an area of approximately 810 square kilometers and located in the Middle East. It is surrounded by three countries: Israel, the West Bank and Jordan.
The water of the Dead Sea contains more than 20% salt while the sea contains only 5%. This is what makes the waters of the Dead Sea not home to any animal or plant life.
The density of the Dead Sea is such that any body is forced to float on its surface. The mineral salts it contains are also an extraordinary source of benefits for the skin and the body.
The geography of the Dead Sea is particular: shallow in the south (southern part), it barely reaches four meters while its depth is 400 meters in the north and in its northern part. It is located 420 meters below sea level, making it the lowest place on earth. The Dead Sea reached its largest size 10,000 years ago.
The arid landscapes and the high density of the sea giving it reflections of a lead lake, the strong heat and the smell of sulfur make this landscape an inhospitable place, where life seems to have disappeared a long time ago.
But the waters of the Dead Sea and the ambient air are a real source of well-being and benefits for the body.
HISTORY OF THE DEAD SEA
Three million years ago, the Jordan River Valley was regularly flooded by the waters of the Red Sea. The waters formed by the floods accumulated in a narrow bay connected to the sea. With each flood, salt deposits were formed. It seems that it was with the comings and goings of these salty floods that the Dead Sea was gradually created. The climate of the region is very particular: the sun dominates all year round with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius in summer, hence the excessive evaporation of the waters of the Dead Sea. The atmospheric pressure is low since the Dead Sea is located well below sea level (minus 400 meters) and therefore contains a lot of oxygen. It was the Greeks who named the Dead Sea after it, due to the absence of any animal or plant life. The Torah calls it "The Sea of Salt" or even The Sea of the Plain because of its geographical location (the plains of Moab). The Arabs call it the Sea of Lot, based on religious references. The Torah tells that the day Abraham decided to separate from Lot, he asked him to choose the region where he would like to settle. Lot then chose the region of Sodom, which was then a lush and sumptuous garden. The lake was prolific, many fish of all kinds were caught there and the surrounding vegetation was dense and abundant. The dissolute life enjoyed by the inhabitants of Sodom angered God and he destroyed the entire region in a flood of sulfur and salt. This is how the Dead Sea was born. The Dead Sea is located in an area of high seismic activity. It seems that the Dead Sea region was once shaken by violent earthquakes. It is also in the region that the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, in the caves of Qumran. The benefits of the Dead Sea were discovered 2000 years ago, at the time of Herod the Great. It is said that Cleopatra immersed herself in Dead Sea mud baths to protect her delicate skin. The Dead Sea is ten times richer in mineral substances than the water of other seas. This exceptional concentration makes the waters of the Dead Sea very beneficial for the body, especially for the skin. The black clay muds also have beneficial effects, as does the air loaded with sulfur and bromine which has relaxing effects on the nervous system. The Dead Sea region has become a major center of research and health care. The mineral content of the waters, the very low concentration of pollens and allergens contained in the air and the low solar radiation due to the higher atmospheric pressure are all beneficial qualities for the body. The climate and waters of the Dead Sea help to improve many skin and respiratory diseases. Examples include psoriasis, cystitis, cystic fibrosis, eczema and vitiligo. The waters and climate of the Dead Sea also treat rheumatism and muscle pain. The waters of the Dead Sea have also been shown to be beneficial for eye problems, hypertension, asthma and Parkinson's disease. One of the most unusual properties of the Dead Sea is its concentration of asphalt. After earthquakes, asphalt stones have settled to the bottom of the waters. The salts of the Dead Sea break down these asphalt stones and dissolve them in the water. The virtues of the Dead Sea are not expressed only by the waters. Due to the high atmospheric pressure, ultraviolet rays are much less harmful and one can enjoy sunbathing that is beneficial for the skin.COMPOSITION
The great wealth of the Dead Sea remains its incredible and unique rate of minerals, its salts as well as its muds contain more than twenty: bicarbonate, boron, bromine, calcium, chlorine, chromium, cobalt, copper, fluorine, iodine, iron, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, silicon, silicone, sodium, strontium, sulfide, vanadium and zinc. The salt and bromine concentration is the highest of any water on earth. Sodium (salt) is responsible for the body floating on the surface of the water. You can almost sit on the water of the Dead Sea because its concentration is so high! Sodium is necessary for humans to ensure a good water balance in the body and hydrate the cells.Potassium
Potassium plays an important role in hydrating the body and is involved in nerve functions. It ensures proper muscle function, fights cellulite, osteoarthritis, rheumatism.Calcium
Calcium plays a role in the construction and solidification of the skeleton and teeth. It fights against bone fragility and helps reduce blood pressure. It is also involved in blood clotting and muscle contractions.Magnesium
The role of magnesium is very important: it facilitates nerve impulses, supports cardiac activity, promotes blood flow to small vessels and prevents thrombosis and cramps.Bromine
Bromine (or bromine) is a regulator of the pituitary gland. It facilitates sleep and has a calming effect on the body.Bicarbonates
Bicarbonates help maintain a good pH and fight against acidosis and respiratory alkalosis. MUD THERAPY WITH DEAD SEA MUD Mud therapy is a thermal practice that consists of mud wraps or baths and is said to be a therapy in its own right.Dead Sea mud can help reduce skin problems such as psoriasis, eczema and acne.
It deeply cleanses, moisturizes and prevents skin aging and relieves muscle pain and inflamed joints.
